Internet commerce

The internet has revolutionized how we can conduct business. It’s no longer necessary to visit a store to be able to shop. The ability to visit online shopping websites to purchase items such as clothing, televisions and almost anything you can think of, has drastically change the outlook of commerce.

Internet commerce is often called e-commerce as it is basically the ability to purchase items over the internet using a secure gateway. Over the years, the amount of money spent and transactions done on the internet has continued to grow at a rapid pace. This trend will continue to increase as more people are finding it convenient and easy to purchase whatever they want online. It’s the combination of convenience and ease of use that has catapulted online sales.

Internet commerce has also led to the start-up of many online retailers who in the past would not have been able to start a business due to large up front costs based on the need for a large store-front. With a website now acting as the store front, many individuals and smaller companies are able to compete with larger businesses.

Initially there was much skepticism regarding e-commerce. Questions arose about whether it was a safe medium for paying for products and services. As the years went by, it was proven to be a reliable and secure way of handling business transactions. The mechanisms for using secure digital certificates and gateways, ensures that data can be passed from consumer to retailer in a secure fashion.

Most online websites integrate shopping cart technology as well that allows you to shop virtually for items, and add them to your virtual shopping cart. Upon completing your shopping you are then able to complete the checkout process and pay for the items in your cart. In most cases, the items are paid for using your credit card or payment services such as Paypal
